Dr. Günther Jonitz – President of the Berlin Chamber of Physicians

Born in Munich, Germany, 1958. Qualified surgeon, and since 1999 President of the Berlin Chamber of Physicians and a member of the board of the German Medical Association (GMA/BÄK). Chairman of the quality assurance bodies of the GMA. Representative of the GMA in the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) and of the Institute for Quality and Transparency in Health Care (IQTIG). He is founding member and formerly Chair of the German Coalition for Patient Safety (APS) as well as founding member of the German Network for Evidence Based Medicine (DNEbM). Since 2006 he is the technical advisor to the German Ministry of Healthon questions relating to patient safety in international organizations (e.g. EU Commission, WHO).He is also leader of the working group “Patient Safety” that is part of the national programme “Gesundheitsziele.de”, defining goals and setting agendas in health care. He has organized the first congress on value-based health care in Germany in 2016 in cooperation with the bmj and Nuffield College, University of Oxford, UK. He received the Federal Medal of Honour by the German Federal President for his achievements in patient safety and evidence-based medicine in 2016.
